welcome back
a 300 hour teacher training summary & june events
Well hello, readers! It has been too long.
I was off completing a 300 hour teacher training at The Shala Yoga in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. So, if you were wondering where these blogs posts have been, they have been stuck in my head, with absolutely no time to write them down! For anyone interested in a 300 hour training or a continuing education course, I couldn’t recommend The Shala more. The program started in October 2025 and ended in April 2026. My 300 hour group joined the 200 hour group for almost all their training sessions, and in addition, we had final project on a topic of our choosing. I chose to dive into Bhakti Yoga.
I was so impressed with the owners, Kristin Leigh and Barbara Verrochi. What stood out to me was the level of planning they put into the entire training and the patience they showed their students. Safety, accessibility and inclusion was at the forefront of everything we did.
While I cannot replay every detail from the training, I thought this might be a nice platform to recap my experience and jot down my favorite information snacks I learned.

Karnapidasana - In teacher training, we took Sanskrit classes! If you are an English speaker who uses Sanskrit in your classes, you, like me, are probably pronouncing things incorrectly. I always include Sanskrit in my classes so I went into our first session with a big head, and was served a large piece of humble pie. It turns out, I have been pronouncing Karnapidasana incorrectly for 10 years (among other terms..)
Teachers lean on each other - During the immersion, I came to realize how much my teachers lean on one another. They help each other with sequencing, dharma talks, playlists, everything! A lesson I am leaving the training with is to use my community for support. All to often I feel like I have run out of ideas for themes and transitions. As it turns out, the teachers you look up to the most probably have a group chat to overcome this idea paralysis.
Always come back to Sutra 1.2 - You can come back again and again.
There are overlaps between Yoga & Buddhism, but they are not the same - Meditation to clarify the mind feels like the big overlap. Some concepts seem similar, like the idea of suffering, or being stuck in a cycle. Yoga and Buddhism both have lists (lots of lists) that give you clear paths forward and direction about how to act in society. These lists have similar concepts like non-attachment, but they seem to part when it comes to our connection as humans. In the Yoga Sutras, it is made clear that we each have an individual soul (Purusha); We are separate beings. According to Buddhism, we are interdependent (no self), everything and everyone is connected.
Topics to investigate further - In general teaching trainings, you get a taste of many topics. Things I’d like to dive into further (that could be good class themes for the future!) are: The 3rdPada of the Yoga Sutras, Prana Vayus, The Nadis, and The Gunas
Now, without further ado..
