The serendipity of summer in New York
For those of us who haven’t already escaped to the Hamptons or retreated to Europe, there is still much to do in the Yoga & Wellness space in New York City this July. The scene has been steadily (re)growing since the pandemic, and as a yoga fiend living in Brooklyn, I feel overwhelmed by options. So, if you have a summer Friday off, or a weekend for R&R, here are the best options (IMO) New York has to offer this July.
*In no particular order*
1. Sound Healing at Humming Puppy
That’s right. This Flatiron based studio is known for it’s Hummmm, so what better place to sound bath?
July 18th | 7:30 - 8:45pm | $50
2. New Moon Women’s Circle
I am a huge Maria Cutrona stan, so her name will be popping up on this newsletter.. This July, Maria is hosting a women’s circle (think yoga, journaling, discussion) at Prema (a Brooklyn sanctuary located at 976 Fulton Street).
July 26th | 6:30 - 8:30pm | $25
3. Souk Souk Souk
Between Rima Rabbath’s limitless energy, the disco ball hanging from their beautiful high ceilinged studio, and the training offerings, when you are at Souk, you know you are at one of the best yoga studios in the world. That’s so New York of you!
This summer, Souk is hosting a Mentorship Program; If you can’t cough up the $2,800 fee (like me…) you are still in luck! Many of the workshops and classes will be open to the public, including a 3 hour workshop called “Anatomy of a Class” with Jules Febre & Martyna Eder. Think: Sequence, Theme, Pace, Atmosphere.
July 19th | 1:30 - 4:30pm | $75
4. Summer 1 Month Immersion at Yogamaya
If you are looking to earn your 200 hour yoga teaching certification, a summer immersion is a GREAT option (that’s how I did it!). Bryn at Yogamaya is a super empowering female leader in the New York City yoga space, and I have only heard great things about their YTT programs. If you are feeling ready, then here is your sign.
July 7 - August 3rd | $3,800
5. Annie Piper at The Shala in Fort Greene
This one i’m going to regret because it is ALWAYS sold out. I think we can all agree that MONDAYS SUCK. Well mine don’t, and that’s because they go a little like this:
9:00 - 5:00pm | Sad corporate day job
5:20 - 5:40pm | FREE meditation led by The Shala’s co-owner, Barbara Verrochi
6:00 - 7:15pm | Vinyasa at The Shala with Annie Piper (this is the juiciest class you will ever take!)
7:15pm - onwards | Think about next Monday
6. Mushroom Yoga at Baby Cobra
I’ll just leave it at that.
July 13, 20, 27 | 12:30 - 2:00pm | $35
